3D Finish – solid carbide high-performance milling cutter for finishing

Perfect finish machining

The 3D Finish revolutionises finishing on 5-axis milling machines and machining centres. The tools work in a similar way to finishing using a ball nose end milling cutter, yet increase the width of cut due to their circle segments boasting large radii. Even at higher widths of cut, significantly improved surfaces are achieved and machining times are drastically reduced.

Advantages of the 3D Finish high-performance milling cutter

  • Highly cost effective
The large radii make higher widths of cut possible, which significantly reduces processing times
  • Better surfaces
Despite shorter machining times, improved surface qualities are achieved thanks to the large radii
  • HA shank
Ideal runout and balance quality due to the cylindrical shank
  • Universal application
The 3D Finish solid carbide milling cutter is suitable for use on steel, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant steels and hardened steel

Large variety of geometries in the 3D Finish product range

All versions in the 3D Finish range boast a tight geometrical tolerance of ± 0.01 mm.

Comparison – ball nose end milling cutters vs. 3D Finish high-performance milling cutters

Ball-nosed end mill
  • Radius depends on the tool diameter
  • Only low widths of cut are possible; due to the small radius
  • Tools with a large diameter/radius are expensive due to the high carbide content, e.g. diameter 16 mm, radius 8 mm

Diameter 20 mm | radius 10 mm

3D Finish high-performance milling cutter – oval shape
  • Radius does not depend on the tool diameter
  • High widths of cut possible owing to the large radius
  • Tools with a large radius and small shank diameter are more economical as the carbide content is lower, e.g. diameter 16 mm, radius 1500 mm

Diameter 16 mm | radius 1500 mm

Product range

With the 3D Finish range, we are offering the most extensive product spectrum on the market and can provide the ideal milling cutter geometry for any component shape. This means you not only benefit from quicker machining times and improved surface qualities, but also enjoy maximum flexibility and long-term tool availability.

3D Finish – barrel shape (1)

  • Suitable for easily accessible areas

3D Finish – oval shape (2)

  • Suitable for easily accessible flanks
  • Not suitable for deep areas

3D Finish – lens shape (5)

  • Suitable for flat areas

3D Finish – taper shape (3)

  • Suitable for steep walls and deep cavities
  • α/2 is the angle to the surface to be used
  • If the surface exhibits a tilt angle of α/2, the surface can also be machined in three axes

3D Finish – taper shape (4)

  • Suitable for flat areas
  • α/2 is the angle to the surface to be used
  • If the surface exhibits a tilt angle of α/2, the surface can also be machined in three axes
Note the following:

Note that the curvature of the component should be greater than the curvature of the tool.
