Power Milling Cutter S-Cut
Performance upGRADE for a more sustainable milling cutter line

Universal solid carbide milling cutters made from a more sustainable carbide boast a next-gen performance coating and sophisticated geometric features.

Designed to handle any application and suitable for a wide range of materials, universal milling systems are a favorite among machinists. But our new S-Cut series has even more to offer: Made from CT-GS20Y – our most sustainable carbide grade currently available – this series helps to be resource-efficient while achieving an incredible boost in performance due to the latest geometry and coating technologies.

Our requirements were threefold when developing our new S-Cut tools. They needed to be suitable for the widest possible range of applications, more powerful than similar milling systems and made from CT-GS20Y, our sustainable carbide grade. None of this was easy – but we found a very effective solution.

Boost performance and sustainability with S-Cut solid carbide milling cutters

  • Universal > Suitable for a wide range of different materials
  • Sustainable > Made from 99% recycled carbide substrate with a specific product carbon footprint (PCF)
  • Powerful > New coating technology and improved geometry for next-level performance
  • Efficient > Suitable for a variety of machining processes

99% reprocessed raw materials – 100% performance

Anyone who has machined steels, stainless steels or cast materials understands the ever-changing challenges this involves. So if you're tired of constantly swapping around different tools, milling cutters that can do practically any job will go a long way towards boosting efficiency. But sustainability is an equally important aspect, no matter how demanding the commercial requirements. Which is why we developed the solid carbide milling cutters in the S-Cut product line, which combine the immense performance of an all-round high-performance milling cutter with the sustainability features of CT-GS20Y, our upGRADE substrate for more sustainable carbides. This product range offers our customers economic and ecological advantages thanks to a specific low product carbon footprint (PCF).

The S-Cut lets us deliver up to 30 % higher performance compared to other universal tools!

Outstanding product performance and the lowest CO2 emissions in its class!

What is upGRADE all about?

  • upGRADE inside:
upGRADE powder closes the material loop more effectively than any other product in its category
  • 50–99% of the powder is produced via recycling with advanced metallurgical technologies and 100% renewable energy

CT-GS20Y – The verifiably sustainable carbide

The new upGRADE grade CT-GS20Y is a 10% binder submicron carbide with a set tungsten carbide grain size of 0.5 to 0.8 µm. This grade is the preferred choice for drilling and milling tools made of solid carbide and is therefore the ideal option when it comes to a wide range of applications. What's so special about CT-GS20Y?  We use 99 % reprocessed cutting tools as a raw material. Compared to carbides from conventional production, this innovative material is manufactured in a production process that boasts a significantly smaller carbon footprint. Not only that, when producing CT-GS20Y we are also very eco-conscious when it comes to energy use, resource efficiency and optimised logistics.

Product carbon footprint (PCF) as a CO2 emissions index

Our goal is to establish a common market standard for calculating and classifying the carbon footprint of cutting tools: the product carbon footprint (PCF) classification. In this way, we can offer our customers the transparency they want in regard to carbon footprint.

PCF classification: Advantages/benefits

  • Create transparency around your carbon footprint
  • Every product gets a simple PCF classification
  • Additional PCF certificate for your own carbon footprint calculation

Greater performance with new coating and improved geometry

Developments in grinding technology are also progressing apace, as demonstrated by the new S-Cut series in particular. These milling cutters boast optimised geometries that aim to deliver ultimate performance in as many materials as possible. Despite balancing various requirements, this series never compromises. Test results clearly show that we can deliver up to 30% higher performance with the S-Cut compared to other universal tools! Another factor behind these outstanding results is a newly developed coating that gives the milling cutters extra reserves in terms of performance and tool life.

Advantages of the S-Cut summed up:

  • CT-GS20Y carbide, proven to have the lowest product carbon footprint in its class
  • Option of an additional PCF certificate to calculate your own carbon footprint
  • Variable helix pitch for extremely quiet running and optimum chip removal
  • HB shank for optimum power transmission (HA/HAB shank on S-Cut UNImax)
  • Reinforced tool core for even force distribution
  • Radial clearance face for unbeatable cutting edge stability
  • Face finishing chamfer for top surface quality
  • Irregular pitch of cutting edges specifically suppresses vibrations
  • The S-Cut UNImax boasts a special cutting edge geometry, designed for high-volume cutting
  • Laser-applied Data Matrix Code (DMC) for unambiguous tool tracking

DMC code contains the complete value chain

We firmly believe that sustainability should be a core aspect throughout a tool's entire life cycle. Digital tools such as the CERAsmart Cockpit and ToolCycle module make it possible to keep tabs on sustainability, as tools can be clearly identified, tracked and mapped throughout their entire life cycle thanks to a special DMC code lasered onto the tool itself.

This also includes the option of viewing the tool's individual grinding status, as CERATIZIT offers the ReStart service to give its tools a second or multiple lives with the original geometries. So anyone looking to conserve a maximum of resources while significantly improving their carbon footprint will find that regrinding rather than rebuying pays off in more ways than one. Customers opting for this approach often cut their tool costs by more than half without any noticeable loss in performance, while also significantly downsizing their carbon footprint. When a tool does eventually reach the end of its service life, the raw materials it contains such as cobalt and tungsten can be recovered using special recycling processes, processed to make new tools and thus kept in the raw materials cycle.
